National News:

Phoenix, Arizona (January 25, 2007) — News Release!

The Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) is pleased to announce that the hugely successful country band Lonestar will headline entertainment at the Association’s 29th annual Wing Ding rally in Billing, Montana, this year.  Set to perform at BillingsMetraPark Arena on Friday, July 6, Lonestar’s 7 p.m. show (sponsored by J&M Corporation of Tucson, Arizona) is sure to be a blockbuster.

Lonestar is one concert Wing Ding delegates won’t want to miss. And GWRRA is happy to announce its Members will pay only a fraction of the price Lonestar tickets sell for at other venues nationwide! With the $10 savings GWRRA Members receive off the general public ticket price of $39.50, they will pay only $29.50 apiece for tickets AND receive special reserved seating!

In addition, pre-registered Wing Ding delegates have the chance to win two free tickets to the concert each month from February through June.  GWRRA will randomly select a winner on the 1st of each month from the previous months’ pre-registration list.  The winner will receive the free tickets or, if that delegate has already purchased tickets to the show, will be reimbursed for the cost of two tickets.

To secure tickets, GWRRA Members should call (800)366-8538 or visit www.tickets.com. They should be prepared to provide the discount code word “GL1000” (no spaces) and their GWRRA membership number to receive the special $29.50 pricing. The best seats are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis, and Members should specify if they would like their tickets mailed to them or held at the MetraPark Arena’s “Will Call” booth.

From your Chapter Directors, Paul & Mary Lavely,

Hello from sunny Florida!  We will have a busy two weeks of riding, Daytona Bike Week and the Florida District Rally. Wish you all could be here to ride with us, but we are looking forward to a great riding season with all of you.

We've been in touch with our staff by phone and e-mail. We are planning a Memorial Ride & Bake Sale in Wayne's name; proceeds will be given to Cathie. He will be sadly missed by all of his family, Chapter PA-T and all of Region B. To us at first he seemed a little rough around the edges but once you got to know him he was just a "Great Big Teddy Bear ".   We all loved him.

Oh heck, we are on vacation so that is all for now. Looking forward to seeing you in April.

Remember Chapter Pa-T is “Friends and Fun for All”.

From your Asst. Chapter Directors, Doug & Nan Johnson

Wow!  I do not know where to begin to start writing from.  First of all and one of the most important things that Doug and I would like to say is what a great feeling “Chapter T” has given us.  We were very overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity that the “Chapter T” showed the Ketenheim family during their time of need.  It was great knowing that there are still some wonderful people out there who treat one another has family and truly care about other people.

We would also like to say please be patient with us as we try our new positions as Assistant Directors, we will try to do our best, but we have lots to learn.

On a happy note, the time change has occurred and Easter is over.  (Hope everyone had a good holiday.)

The weather is getting nicer and riding season is just around the corner.  Winter was short but it seemed to go on forever, Doug and I are very excited about this riding season.  The Chapter has lots of rides scheduled this summer hopefully everyone can ride along on them.  We hope to get to know everyone better and those who we have not met hope to get to know them.  Until the next time have fun, keep safe, and stay healthy.

February 12, 2007 Meeting Highlights

Chapter T’s February 12th meeting was presided over by our Special Events Coordinators, Gene and Cathy Stahl.  Paul and Mary Lavely are currently in Florida and we hope that they were not in any of the bad storms that went through the state.

The meeting was a very sad one for those 33 members that were present.  Our one and only Wayne Ketenheim passed away during the morning of February 11, 2007.  Everyone that currently belongs or belonged to the Chapter at any time knew Wayne and Cathie.  Wayne was our Newsletter Editor and part of our Chapter Webmaster team.  If you ever got to do any traveling with Wayne and Cathie as Don and I have done on numerous vacations, he made it fun, relaxing and enjoyable.  Wayne will be sadly missed by everyone. Wayne and Cathie have three children, David, Tammy and Kelly, their spouses and nine grandchildren that will greatly miss him.  Please remember to keep Cathie and her family in your thoughts and prayers during this trying time.  For those wishing to send cards to the family, Cathie’s address is 315 Sell Street; Johnstown, PA 15905.

Chapter T’s new Assistant Chapter Directors, Doug and Nan Johnson, handed out the District Raffle Tickets to those members present.  They want to let everyone know that the member that sells the most tickets will receive a free dinner for two.  Doug also read the birthdays and anniversaries for the month of February.

On a happier note, the Chapter paid for the dessert for everyone present and also gave carnations in a bud vase to the ladies.  Gillie, you did a great job with the flowers!  Cathie Stahl handed out candy to everyone and on five of the Valentine Cards attached to the candy bags, there was a little star. If you were lucky enough to get a star, you won a prize.

Gene and Cathy handed out Chapter Members phone numbers and addresses.  You never know when you might want to see if someone wants to go on an unscheduled ride, or you may just need some type of information.  If you did not get a copy, please let Gene and Cathie know.

We have some very nice activities scheduled for February, March and April.  Please check the activities listed on the front of your newsletter.  Please come join us if you can.  If you can’t, believe me, we understand.  We can’t attend all of the meetings and activities because of work and family issues, but we hope to attend as many as we can.  We hope to see you there!

Bob and Sue Berkey are proud grandparents for the 3rd time.  Their daughter Lori and husband Brandon welcomed into the world their son, Elijah Matthew Kishlock, on Saturday, February 10th.  Congratulations to the proud parents and grandparents.  Pretty soon Bob and Sue will have their own motocross team with their three grandsons.

It was a rewarding evening for Charlie and Ethel Tataleba.  Charlie won the 50/50 in the amount of $41.00 and Ethel won the progressive in the amount of $16.50.  Charlie and Chuck Glessner also won door prizes.

Thank you cards were received from the Johnstown Food Pantry for the Chapter donation and Jim and Pat May’s for the flowers that were sent on behalf of Jim’s mother on her passing.

From your Chapter Educators, Leonard & Snooks Lottig

Well here it is April, we are just about there. Time to get those wings out of storage. Time to service and do our maintenance on our machine and get them ready to roll. We need to get our leathers out too. The weather is getting warmer, but on a bike it’s still going to be pretty cold with the wind chill factor. The leather chaps and heavier jackets although fairly expensive, provide far more than protection from the cold.  In studies of 'survivability' of various

garment materials to a 50 MPH ride on asphalt, for example, denim lasted no more than FOUR FEET before wearing through. Kevlar, on the other hand, lasted EIGHTEEN FEET. But standard motorcycle quality (about three times heavier than fashion jacket material) lasted EIGHT-SIX FEET. That’s more than 20 times as effective as your jeans in protecting your hide. (These test were reported in the Sept. 1988 issue of Cycle magazine).Dress appropriately for the season. Watch out for gravel on the roads from the winter months driving. Always ride safely.

Getting to know your Chapter Couple, Mike & Mary Ann Scheve,

Mike had a new 1994 BMW K-75 when we met.  We pulled a Qwik-Kamp camper and did all our traveling by motorcycle.  We married in 1996.  In 2000 we traded in the Qwik-Kamp and had a Bunk House camper hitched to a new 2000 Gold Wing.

After retiring from our government jobs in Baltimore, Maryland, we moved to Johnstown in 2005.  We joined Chapter T and a year later we were nominated for Couple of the Year 2007-- which we are truly honored.  Mike has been riding for 36 years and I've been his co-rider since the day we met.

From your Ride Coordinators and Public Affairs Coordinators, Gary & Susan Yoder,

April Happenings - Is everyone thinking Spring ?? Bring on the riding weather, I am ready to go. Just wanted to remind you to check your ride schedules for our Heritage Tour in Johnstown. We had attempted this earlier and the weather didn’t cooperate very well. This should be a very educational tour that will help to tell the Story of the Johnstown Flood and the devastation it caused in the downtown area. We will of course be eating at the Incline Plane Restaurant and enjoying the view from atop the incline. We have lots of other rides on our schedule and a few surprises here and there so keep a close eye on the Ride Schedule and we look forward to having a great time together.

From your Special Events Coordinators, Gene & Cathy Stahl

Hi everyone:  It’s me again your use to be Director. I was informed since I was standing in for Paul; I needed to have a article for the newsletter. Well I’m not to sure there is any legal merit in that request. So for Paul’s sake I will say a few words.  SPRING IS COMING! Need I say more? Love ya all, take care, and take life one day at a time.

Pictures from Sweetheart’s Dinner

Saturday, February 17, 2007

Saturday, February 17, 2007 was not the greatest for traveling, but twenty-four brave souls made it to the Mountaineer Café in Berlin, PA.  Charlie and Ethel were the closest and first to arrive along with Don and Patty and Gary and Susan pulling in almost at the same time.  When we walked into the restaurant it was already set up for us to enjoy a nice dinner buffet with our fellow Chapter members.

Gene and Cathy Stahl arrived with bud vases filled with carnations which were put out as centerpieces on the tables and members then got to take them home at the end of the evening.

Gary and Susan had brought the game “Rate Your Mate” which was played by all but Gene and Cathy who had played it before and Gary and Susan.  Those four were the judges for the game.  Don and Patty were the winners for the game.  Guess it really does pay off to spend almost all your time together (when Don isn’t working).

Do you think you know who made love for the first time on Rt. 11 in Ohio, on a bale of hay in the barn, who needs to get some wallpaper taken off of the wall or who likes to fool around twice a day?   You really had to be there to hear some of the answers!

Thank you to Gary and Susan for planning such an enjoyable evening.
